The famous pink shirts that were worn by the Northern Knights during the recently completed HRV Cup domestic Twenty20 competition proved popular on auction site TradeMe, with over $2000 going to The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).

As expected, the shirts worn by Daniel Vettori and Thillakaratne Dilshan were the most popular, with the shirts being sold for $810 and $715 respectively.

David Cooper, Northern Districts Cricket CEO, smiles when he recalls mooting the idea of the pink uniforms with the board of Northern Districts Cricket back in May.

"I was pretty nervous bringing it up with them on a cold winter's day in Hamilton! But, after the successful campaign the Knights have had this year, it's safe to say the pink is here to stay. We knew the shirts would be a valuable item when the auction time came and are pleased to see so much money roll in for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation," he said.

The shirts, which have each player's name and playing number on the back and were signed on the back and front by the player, sold for a combined total of $4734, with the proceeds being spilt evenly between The NZBCF and junior cricket development in the Northern Districts Cricket region.

Heather Shotter, Executive Trustee of The NZBCF, is delighted that the Northern District Cricket Association and the Northern Knights chose The Foundation to be the official charity for the 2009-10 cricket season.

"The Northern Knights' support has really raised the profile of both The Foundation and breast cancer. We have received a lot of positive comments and look forward to continuing to develop the successful partnership.

"The Northern Knights have been fine ambassadors for their region and their support for The Foundation," she said.
